Turn PDFs into clean, source-mapped Markdown
Converting a PDF to Markdown is easy to do badly: you get a wall of text with broken headings, mangled tables, and no way back to the original page. Mempipe extracts PDFs into structured Markdown that keeps the document's shape — and keeps a source map linking every block back to exactly where it came from.
What you get from every PDF
Drop a PDF into a Space and Mempipe derives a structured document from it: headings, paragraphs, lists, and tables as clean Markdown, in reading order. It’s not a screenshot-to-text dump — it’s a document model, where every element keeps its identity.
- →Clean Markdown output. Headings come out as headings and tables as tables, in the PDF’s reading order. If a table comes out jumbled, switch that PDF to the other extractor.
- →A source map, not just text. The source map links each heading, paragraph, and table back to its page in the original PDF, with its position on the page where the extractor provides one.
- →Named, versioned extraction. The PDF’s view names the extractor that produced the Markdown. If you prefer the other extractor’s output, switch to it.
PDF to Markdown for LLMs, RAG, and agents
If you’re converting PDFs to Markdown for an AI workflow — RAG pipelines, LLM context, agent knowledge bases — the conversion is only half the problem. The other half is provenance: when the model answers, can you tell which page the claim came from?
Because Mempipe keeps the source map alongside the Markdown, everything built on top of it — search results, Q&A answers, agent responses over MCP — can cite the exact source location. Your agents read the same structured Markdown a human reads in the workspace, and a valid citation opens the cited passage on its page in the real PDF.
Your PDFs and Markdown stay yours
Mempipe stores your documents as ordinary files in an ordinary folder structure, and what it derives from them stays open too: the Markdown is plain Markdown — the same text a human reads in the workspace and an agent reads over MCP — never a proprietary container. Processing never changes the PDFs you upload, and an agent connected over MCP can read the Markdown and pass it to other tools.
Learn how
Read a PDF as Markdown and check the original page →
Open the PDF, choose markdown in the View switcher to read its text, and choose a section's page chip to see that passage on the original page.
Upload files to a Space →
Open Files in your Space and choose Upload file, or drag files and whole folders from your computer into the file list.
What happens after you upload a file →
Mempipe extracts the text of each PDF and Markdown file so you can read and search it, and turns each CSV and TSV file into a table you can query.
Frequently asked questions
- Does PDF to Markdown conversion keep tables?
- Yes. Tables come out as Markdown tables. With the default Docling extractor, each row gets its own entry in the source map, so a citation can point at a specific table row, not just the page it sits on.
- What happens to the original PDF?
- Nothing. The PDF stays in your Space unchanged. The Markdown is derived from it and kept beside it, never a replacement for it.
- Can I use the Markdown outside Mempipe?
- Yes. The output is plain Markdown, the same text agents read over MCP, with no proprietary format in the way. There is no download button. Copy the text from the markdown view, or have an agent connected over MCP read it and pass it to your editor, RAG pipeline, or LLM tooling.
- How is this different from a one-off PDF converter?
- A converter hands you a file and forgets you. Mempipe keeps the PDF, the Markdown, the search index, and the source map together in a workspace — so the conversion is the beginning of search, Q&A, and citations, not the end of the workflow.
